How To Use Soy Candles & Melts
(Making the Most of your Soy Candles or Melts)
SOY MELTS: break off 1 cube and place it in the top of an oil burner. Carefully light a tea light and place it in the base of your oil burner. As the soy wax melts it releases its beautiful aromas. 1 cube should give fragrance for up to 15 hours. Once spent, simply allow the wax to cool and harden fully and wipe out oil burner dish with paper towel. Wax residue can be scraped off with a spoon or soak your oil burner in very hot soapy water until the wax melts away.
SOY CANDLES: Always place your soy products in a dry place out of direct sunlight. Soy wax will start to soften in it's glass container at temperatures around 26 degrees celsius.
The first time you light your soy candle allow it to burn and create a pool of liquid wax that is within 1 cm of the glass. This gives maximum scent throw. If you do not do this the candle can burn down the wick to the bottom of the jar.
The wick will naturally curl a little - this is normal, and it may form a small carbon ball on top which should be removed with finger tips once completely cooled before relighting your soy wax candle. You do not need to cut/trim the wick like paraffin or beeswax candles, which would shorten the flame of your soy wax candle, thus reducing scent throw.
Room temperature should ideally be above 15 degrees celsius and under 30 degrees celsius for best fragrance results.
They Are Easy to Clean Up
If you do spill any soy wax simply wait for it to cool and fully harden, then simply chip away the large pieces with your fingernail or a plastic implement that will not damage your surface. Then use very warm water with a dishwashing detergent. If spilled on clothes or fabrics always adhere to the clothing manufacturer's washing instructions. Soy wax should wash out quite easily in your washing machine and is fully biodegradable.
Once your soy wax melt has given off all of its fragrance, simply allow the wax in your oil burner to fully cool and harden, then use a fingernail or paper towel to easily dislodge the spent wax so you are ready to replace a new soy wax melt cube in your oil burner. No other cleaning is necessary.
Safety
Although soy wax burns far cooler than paraffin or beeswax candles you should NEVER leave a burning candle or oil burner unattended, or in a place where pets or children could knock it over. Never move a lit soy candle or oil burner. Always place your oil burner (for melts) or candle jar on a solid & stable surface. Place candles and oil burners at table height or a low shelf, rather than low areas. Placing your candle or melts on the floor makes them vulnerable to being knocked over. Never place candles or oil burners near flammable objects like curtains, soft furnishings or flammable liquids or gases.
Fragrances: strengths & purposes of soy scents
We maximise the fragrance in our soy candles & melts as much as possible to give you the satisfaction you desire from the product. Fragrances used in our natural soy wax candles and melts are manufactured specifically for soy wax candles and are of the highest & non-toxic grade of perfume for home use. Strength of fragrance varies between fragrance types, some are stronger than others and room temperature can effect strength. Soy wax melts give off a higher fragrance than soy wax candles because the wax fully melts and gets hotter in an oil burner, thus maximising scent throw. Soy candles are mainly for ambience and a milder scent throw, while soy melts are designed to fully fragrance the home environment.
Our sized candle jar should give enough fragrant scent for an average sized living room or kitchen. Larger rooms may require two candles to allow for sufficient aroma. Larger rooms are best scented using soy wax melts which give off stronger aroma than soy wax candles.
Allergies?
Because soy wax is organic (pesticide, herbicide, petroleum & chemical free) there is a much lower chance of aggravating allergies for humans & animals. However, each person is different; always consult your medical professional if you have any concern about a fragrant product. We cannot give refunds based on allergic reactions as it is the customer's responsibility to avoid purchasing any product from any supplier which contains any fragrances which may aggravate a known or unknown allergy.
Colours
We do not colour our soy candles & soy melts as colours can contain toxins.
Can I re-use the jar?
Yes. Once your soy candle has given all it can, simply allow it to fully cool. Pour enough rubbing alcohol in to cover the small metal wick holder at the base and allow it to sit for up to 24 hours. The metal wick holder should then be easily removed with a teaspoon or other safe object. Simply wash with hot soapy water and allow to dry and you have quite an elegant lidded jar to use for any purpose you like.
